Long Tailed Skipper

I took these photographs of a Long Tailed Skipper last summer. I have been going through my photographs trying to id the butterflies I couldn't last summer.
I even caught this one in flight.
Love his long tail, he just looks so different than the other skippers around here.
I cropped this last photo partly to get rid of the ugly dead leaf he was on, and partly to get a closer look at him.

I love taking pictures of insects. They are hard to capture really well and I love to see the detail up close when you get a good clear pictures. Things in flight are even more fun. Did you have a zoom lens or were you very close to this butterfly?

I also love all the photographs of butterflies down the side. Particularly the ones on bright flowers. The contrast is lovely.

Love the colors in these pictures, Leedra. ALSO--I loved seeing Cades Cove and the deer.

We've been on vacation and I really missed you and my bloggy friends.
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Leedra,
These skipper pictures are great!
I miss them and the butterflies!

p.s. I have a re-newed respect for you (and others) who get good pictures of birds! I went out in the edge of the woods this afternoon with the hope of getting some bird pictures. The wood was full of birds but they are so fast and so good at hiding!!

I especially love their eyes and the pretty flowers that yours have landed on.
