Dragonflies - Florida, February 2009

Dragonflies are not the easiest thing to see in the woods.
Not exactly what a person is looking for either.

But I had to try to capture them with my camera,

because I find they don't normally want to stay still long enough for a photo.

This last photo is a different dragonfly. Notice the wings.

It was just a few feet away from the first one.

Early Stage of Waterlily Buds

Various waterlily buds we saw while visiting Perry's Water Garden in North Carolina.

Not sure about this one, would have loved to seen one of these open. May not even be a water lily, but obviously it is a water plant.
There were lots of dragonflies around that day, but they were very active.
So they were very hard for me to capture with my camera.

Dragonfly at Lake Seminole Park

I took this photograph on Wednesday at the same park I have been posting this week photographs taken in June 2008. I now know the park is called Lake Seminole Park instead of Seminole Park. I was so excited to get this one photo of a dragonfly I decided to go ahead and post it. I have taken lots of photographs this week and will be going through them to get the best of each bird. With only one photograph of a dragonfly it was easy, nothing to go through. I do not know which type of dragonfly. Have not tried to learn them yet.

Dragonflies in Cades Cove

Finally went to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on Labor Day. I was hoping to see bear. Saw one Mama bear and her triplets. But there was a man hollering "there's the Mama and her babies", over and over. Needless to say, I was not fast enough because they were running in the opposite direction. I did get these dragonfly photos. I also got some other photos I will be sharing.

Dragonfly in the field behind my house

Wednesday thought I would walk out behind our property in the general area the deer roam. Sunday afternoon we saw a Mama and baby. Thought I might get a little closer. Never saw any deer, but I got these 2 photos of a dragonfly. When I took these photos I said I refuse to start researching dragonflies. But this being the best photograph yet, and EcoBirder giving so much information, I decided I had to try. It is just in my nature, so I found this great web site about dragonflies, and have decided this is a female Common Whitetail. Since this is my first attempt at dragonflies I will welcome any correcting information if I am wrong.

Dragonflies at Perry's Water Gardens

Now you know the real reason we went to the mountains of North Carolina. To visit and photograph at Perry's Water Gardens
I have not even begun to go through my photos of the water lilies. So be watching for those photos at a later date.

Dragonflies - Lake Seminole Park - Seminole, Florida

The Dragonflies at Seminole Park in Seminole, Florida really put on a show for me while I was vacationing. Friday afternoon we gave up our last afternoon in the sun on St. Pete Beach to go to the park to photograph the birds. Just the Dragonflies were worth the drive from St. Pete Beach.
