On the ground at the Rainforest in Costa Rica

If a person was actually able to find this location on their own they still could not go on the paths without a guide with them. These photos were all taken on the path through the edge of the rainforest. I like the way the small vine is growing up the side of this tree, and all the other growth on the tree.
This slouth is not in the best of light, but it is the best photo I got.
Click to enlarge and look at that front foot holding on.
This plant appears to be safe enough.
Until you look underneath.
Notice the growth on the leaves.
Guess this is due to all the moisture.
Interesting old vine.
And a closer view.
They called these walking trees. The roots shoot out and the younger roots die and the tree actually moves it's location over time.

Armadillo at Saw Grass Park - St Petersburg, Florida

Since the weather was a little cooler than usual during February we visited several new parks while we were in Florida this time. We found a park in St Petersburg, Saw Grass Park.
It has boardwalks (with no side rails) that just wandered through the park.
We were watching for birds and not having much luck.
So it was sorta a dud until we came across the Armadillo.
He was going under the leaves to gather insects I guess.
Made it kind of hard to get a head shot of this guy.

Here is the butt shot we are all the time getting. In this case I like it, can see that mean looking tail. Wouldn't want to be hit with that thing.

Deer enjoying the snow at Cades Cove

There was not a lot of snow in Cades Cove Sunday,
but the deer seemed to be enjoying what was there.

White Tailed Deer in the snow at Cades Cove

These photographs were taken March 8, 2008 at Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park. I used the first photograph for January on the calendar I made for my mother this year.
The 2nd photograph is actually my favorite of the day.

There were several deer and I was quite close to them. The deer in Cades Cove are very tame. Think they would have stayed around for more great photos but off in the distance first a car door, then a dog barked. All the deer took off through the woods and that was the end of the photos for me. I am a firm believer dogs should not be allowed in the park, and this was just an example of why.
There probably is snow in Cades Cove this morning, but it is too cold for me. I am not going, plus my Blazer is in Rockwood, would not go up there with the possibility of snow without my 4X4. Getting it back this weekend. Might go next week, if it would just warm up just a little.

Deer in the snow at Cades Cove

These deer photographs were taken March 8, 2008 at Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
For the last 2 years we have not had as much rain as we needed. We are trying to make up for it in 2 days. Not good! The rivers are cresting this morning. Centers are opening up for the people that have to leave their homes. Snow days I have heard of, but rain days? The schools are closed all over East Tennessee this morning.

Squirrel at Lake Seminole Park

These photographs of a squirrel were taken at Lake Seminole Park in Seminole, Florida.
Believe it or not, even with my bird feeders, I have no squirrels in my own 2 acre yard.
