St Pete at sunset

These sunset photographs were taken October 25, 2008 on St Pete Beach, Florida.

These gulls were just asking for their photograph to be taken. Aren't they great love birds?

Herring Gull

This is an adult Herring Gull, with a Royal Tern behind it. Couldn't crop out the Tern without cutting the gull's tail. Enlarge to see the red (or pink) on the beak. Thought something was wrong with the photograph, then saw the same in the reference books.
The Herring Gull is larger than the other gulls on the Florida gulf coast. They draw the attention just by size. This photo was taken at Fort DeSoto Park last week. Fort DeSoto Park was voted the 2005 #1 beach in North America.

Gull - Juvenile Herring Gull

I think this is a juvenile Herring Gull, would appreciate any help in the identification. These were taken October 2008, along Maderia Beach, Florida.
Maderia Beach is on the Gulf of Mexico, just north of St Pete Beach.
Notice the gulls in the background, he is so much larger, and not just because he is in front of the others. It was what caught our eye to begin with.
I thought to begin with it was a juvenile Laughing Gull, but with the up close photographs I have come to the conclusion it is a Herring Gull. What do you think?

Look at those markings and that bill.
He turned and took off, but it was worth keeping for id purposes.
And the famous 'gone' photo we all have of so many birds.
These photographs were taken in October so it was not mating season.

Gulls along the beach

It has been a Gull day. But this is the last post of the gulls unless I took more on this trip. Just have to wait and see.

Did better at this than I ever would have with the point and shoot. Sure am glad I was able to get my Canon D-SLR.

Gulls at St Pete Beach

This 2nd one is at sunset. Like the way the light is reflecting on the gull. This photo might have been taken at Maderia Beach instead of St Pete Beach. I did take some sunset photos at Maderia. Notice in this photograph you can see some color on the tip of his bill. I think this are Laughing Gulls, but still not sure. Several of you have probably left me info on the earlier post (hopefully).
Can also see the the color at the end of his bill in this photograph.

Gull in prayer

We should be leaving St Pete Beach going home this morning. Please say a short prayer for our safety as we travel.

Gull at Lake Seminole Park

Thought I had this one figured out, until the Gull I had picked said it had red legs. Which Gull do you think it is?
