Various butterflies taken February 2009 in Florida

Notice how in the first photograph of the Common Buckeye Butterfly
the lower part of his wing appear to be transparent. The second photo he has spider webs all around him.
The next 2 are the Zebra Heliconian Butterfly.

Not sure the name of this one.
Or this one.
This one is even more transparent than the Buckeye.
Hopefully Hap will be by to help me with the identification of these last 2.

Hi Leedra,
Your photos are simply amazing! I love each and every one of them!!
Glad you had a chance to swing by Stellan's site. I had been following it before he was born. I actually won a Formula II giveaway McKMama did earlier this month! They are such a sweet family.
And yes, I have been to Jonah's site too. Poor little guy!
I lost my first Grandson when he was only two and a half days old to a hernia in the diaphram. It is always so sad when it involves children!
Take care

Leedra: What neat butterflies and I love it that one is named after a Buckeye Tree.

Fishing Guy - Probably because they blend so well with the outer shell of the buckeye. You have given me an idea for another post. I have photos of the buckeyes, didn't know what I was going to do with them. Later I just might post them with Buckeye Butterfly photos. I had never thought of them together, thanks for the idea.

I like how you pointed out the ones that have some transparency, I might not have noticed, but it is interesting. Really awesome that you are able to photograph butterflies. They just don't want to sit still for me, but I keep trying.

Hi Leedra, you have some nice
butterfly pics there. I think
the buckeye appears somewhat
transparent because a lot of
the scales are worn off this
guy. The zebras are really
impressive (one of my faves).
The gray one is a skipper and
appears to be one of the dusky-
wings. Tough group for me. My
guess is it could be a Juvenal's
or Horace's Duskywing (maybe).
The last one is something that
I have never seen, but it seems
to resemble a Julia heliconian.
If it is, nice catch.

Hap - I am going to go with the Julia Heliconian and will post on my 'butterfly sidebar list' soon. Look at the last photo on the 'more images' of this site. The map shows they are in the area we were in. Thank you for sending me this name.
