Last week I posted some ducks taken at the ponds on Tierra Verde. There are 2 ponds at the entrance to the subdivision.
One pond had lots of different ducks, but the other pond just had Northern Shovelers.

Both ponds have high grass around them, so it does make it harder to get the good photos.
Most of the ducks were new to me. Winter migration brought them to Florida, same as me. I was looking for warmer weather right along with them.
It was such a delight to see so many new birds, in the form of ducks.
Just got the one raising out of the water.

I especially love the last photo. Such beauty.
Love your photos of the shovelers. I have so much to learn. When I see ducks, I think ducks, not types. I especially like the ducks captured looking through the dried grass. Wonderful.
You gotta love those shovel beaks. The first time I saw them I had to laugh.
I really do like the northern shovelers a lot. They truly have adapted themselves well to a particular niche.
Beautiful photos of the birds (ducks, shoveler, etc.)--despite the high grass.
Hugs,
Betsy
Love the shoveler photos. Beautiful ducks.
Never realized how beautiful the shovelers could be!!
Same thing happened to me last fall. I wonder if they know that to avoid pictures ;)
Even with the grass, the pics are nice :) Sometimes the grass makes the picture.
I love those Shoveler bills...so funny looking.
