Since the weather was a little cooler than usual during February we visited several new parks while we were in Florida this time.
We found a park in St Petersburg, Saw Grass Park.
It has boardwalks (with no side rails) that just wandered through the park.
We were watching for birds and not having much luck.
So it was sorta a dud until we came across the Armadillo.
He was going under the leaves to gather insects I guess.
Made it kind of hard to get a head shot of this guy.
Here is the butt shot we are all the time getting. In this case I like it, can see that mean looking tail. Wouldn't want to be hit with that thing.

Quite the armor this guy has...I have never seen a live one before. How big was this guy..Can't believe how compact they are!

Tina - He was about one foot long (not counting his tail). We saw 2 different ones, and the photos could be from both of them.
Aren't these the funniest looking creatures? We see them here alot as road kill. They're not too smart when it comes to crossing the road. I'm with you, I wouldn't want to get too close to that tail.
My goodness! These critters love to dig in my moist gardens. My girls like to catch them by their tails!

Armadillo's are not the most gorgeous of God's critters are they. My cousin who lives in Melbourne, FL has TONS of trouble with them on their property. Her hubby has started shooting them. Bonnie said that he had killed 30 in a very short time. I could never kill them--but I would have having them ALL over the place.

You know, I've never seen an armadillo. They look kind of like prehistoric bugs!

The armadillo is certainly an interesting creature, but I'll have to admit that birds look much better.

They remind me or the roll-up bugs...I think some people call them sow bugs..
