Black Crowned Night Heron

This Black Crowned Night Heron was a first for me.
The first 3 photographs were taken outside a bird sanctuary, north of Maderia Beach, Florida. He was not part of the sanctuary, but lived in the trees close by.
All the photographs were taken October 29, 2008.
The last photograph was taken at Lake Seminole Park in Seminole, Florida.
Not sure it is the Black Crowned, but if not I do not know what it is.

A little strange looking methinks. Then, again, Ive never seen on before. We have a lot of green herons here in the summer.

Hi Leedra, We are home from a couple of days vacation ourselves. We went to the Manchester area (south of Nashville) and saw SIX new waterfalls.. AND--I saw my first Cedar Waxwing. I was almost happier about seeing the waxwing than I was the waterfalls. HA HA.. Guess I am turning into a 'real' birder afterall.

Beautiful bird you captured in this post. I have never seen nor even heard of this bird.

Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Congratulations on your first!

I have never encountered one of these beauties and to think you were able to get such amazing close-ups!
