This young Eastern Bluebird looks pitiful.
I would be out by the hay field too, hoping to not be seen.
The 2nd one looks a little better and wasn't as ashamed to be seen.
Came a little closer to the house.
These photographs were both taken October 5, 2008, so it was late in the season for the little ones. The Eastern Bluebirds just did not want to stop having broods this year.I should have plenty to photograph this spring, maybe I should get a couple more bluebird houses.

Kind of feel sorry for that first one..great captures though.
Poor tatty bluebirds.
I hope they outgrew it!
Ahh maybe it was just a bad hair day for him..poor guy. Do hope you have plenty of blues showing up this spring to nest in those houses!!
I feel sorry for that first little guy. Hopefully he'll look much better in the spring.
At first I thought you had taken these pictures this morning--and I figured that little bluebird was just COLD. BUT--since you took them in October, I don't know what could be wrong. Poor little thing!!!!
I know that they lose their colors in the winter--but that much???? Hmmm--maybe something else is wrong with him. OH---so sad!
Are you staying inside today--like we are????? Brrrrr.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hopefully it was just molting and is all blue by now! Of course not blue from the cold, lol.
Hopefully these guys, like the ugly duckling, will turn into a beautiful swan or at least Bluebird
