I read somewhere that birds have to acquire the taste for Safflower. I think this one liked it ok, he just needs to learn how to eat it, without choking. Enlarge the 3rd photo for a better view.

Hopefully he'll get the hang of it.
Great shots of him/her.
Great set. You've got some great photographs of the flying cuties :)
Leedra, It's amazing how many of our birds like Safflower. I had read that most of them don't. BUT--they do!!! The Tufted Titmice almost prefer it to the Sunflower seeds... What's up with that?
Cute pictures of the Goldfinch.
Hugs,
Betsy
I'm sure he will get it figured out,in the meantime you can have fun taking pictures.
Blessings,Ruth
What an odd capture! You were in the right place at the right time! Poor thing. I tried putting out safflower once and the Cardinals ignored it. Don't think anyone showed much interest.
What a great series of excellent closeups. I'll bet this experience didn't discourage him from going after more seeds!
Hi Leedra,
These are great close-ups of the pretty little Goldfinch! I've watched these birds hold the sunflower seed down with their foot while they try to get the hull off with their beak. At our feeders they prefer the Thistle seed.
Great photos, come and tell me if I photographed a Warbler or a Goldfinch please.
Well, I think he really enjoyed the challenge of that seed and I'm sure he figured it out. You really seem to have a variety of items for them to eat...I like that! :)
great series of bird photos for the last several posts.
Your goldfinch looks so soft and sweet! I have discovered this winter that the goldfinch is a scrappy survivor and was eating at all my different feeders.
Too funny! Such a funny lil fellow! :)
