Newfound Gap - Fall 2008

These fall color photographs were taken October 2008.
This year I returned to Newfound Gap, one year and one day later. The leaves were gone. The bright colored tree above had no leaves. The Gap had snow about 8 - 10 days earlier, and my speculation is that the snow brought the leaves down. Two weeks later I was at Campbell Overlook (a mile or so down the mountain toward Gatlinburg) and the leaves were the prettiest I have ever seen there. Kind of supports my snow theory for the top.
These were taken at sunrise. When I go for the fall colors, I want to be there when the sun comes up, sometimes arriving while it is still pitch black.
I hate that the Gap didn't show these gorgeous colors again this year,

but there is always next year.

You'll have to read my blog today--comparing one year to another when it comes to Fall colors. This year, we had too much rain, and what color we had didn't last very long. My best pictures were in 2007 and 2008---the two years that it had been DRY. Crazy, huh????
Hugs,
Betsy

Very pretty, I love your angles and backgrounds behind the main focus.

We had beautiful colors this year - I think our best. We also have had so much rain I didn't get out with my camera.

Hey Leedra
Lovely pictures as always. Going out before the sun rises sounds like you have a bit of a hunter instinct in you. ;)

Hi Leedra. Similar story on this side of the pond...wet & windy so more leaves on the ground already.
Nice views regardless. FAB.

Hi Leedra,

Gorgeous color! We just barely got to the Smokies in time to see the color this year. By the next week some of our friends who went up there said most of it was gone.

To answer your question - I am knitting like crazy! I just can't post pictures until after Christmas. Get it? ;-)

Truly beautiful colors Leedra. Our fall in Bluff Country was a bust this year. Snow, cold and heavy winds did the leaves in too quickly.

No matter what the time, and no matter about the leaves, the mountains are always glorious. Lovely photographs.
