The Purple Finch is a new bird for me this year.
The first day I saw and photographed the male Purple Finch I was not sure that I really had a Purple Finch. Cornell University did confirm for me this bird is a Purple Finch.
He is really pretty, and not to slight the House Finch any, but I sure was glad that he is a Purple Finch. Last summer one time I thought I had a Purple but it was a House.
In the last year I have learned alot about looking really close for the differences in similiar birds. It paid off this time.
These were taken at the house in Rockwood,
I have not seen a Purple at home.

I'm so glad you found out that he/they are Purple Finches. They do have very white undersides, don't they??? And that female has a huge white eyebrow.
I'm still not sure I could tell the difference ---but I keep reading and learning.
Glad you got one!!!!
Have a great day.
Hugs,
Betsy

Another beautiful bird.

I love how the photos show such great detail.
I don't think we've seen a purple finch here yet, but we keep hoping.
Very nice shots! I have thought I had purple ones but each time was only house. You done great!
They do come to my wife's feeder, but the situation is not ideal for photography so I have no photos of them, but I can enjoy looking at them here. Good job!
Here in Western Washington I havn't had the pleasure of seeing purple finches yet, but when we lived in Central WA, we were lucky to see them along with Cassin's finches. Nice photos Leedra.
Very attractive photos, Leedra! Thank you.
Very beautiful! Once you see them, you remember what they are. The color in the male is so pretty and the female is pretty, too.
Congrats on your purple finch! They are such pretty singers!
Great shots. He is a pretty bird.
